About the Role

As a Senior Systems Engineer at Spreedly, you will lead ambitious projects, drive deep architectural discussions and decisions, and mentor other team members within the engineering organization. You will be responsible for building and scaling complex cloud infrastructure, ensuring high availability, performance, and durability.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and scale infrastructure for a globally distributed payments orchestration service, processing $4B in payments each month.
• Infuse modern DevOps and SRE best practices into the team and broader engineering organization.
• Provide leadership and mentorship to team members, fostering a collaborative environment.
• Balance improving existing infrastructure with building for the future, recognizing the need to maintain systems that support current operations while planning for growth.
• Become an expert in Spreedly infrastructure, diving into the existing tech stack and addressing challenges.
• Support PCI compliance through detailed documentation and system diagrams.
• Assist in the build-out of a container orchestration platform to support a globally distributed system.
• Use Terraform and/or Ansible to deliver infrastructure-as-code solutions.
• Troubleshoot and fix system issues, participating in a weekly on-call rotation to support 24/7 API operations.

Requirements

• Experience with AWS, building, operating, and scaling systems.
• Proficiency in DevOps and/or GitOps, with a solid understanding of CI/CD methods.
• Experience with infrastructure as code tools like Terraform, Ansible, Packer, and Nomad.
• Knowledge of Amazon Linux and Ubuntu distributions, databases (CockroachDB, Postgres), and middleware infrastructure (Kafka).
• Experience with containers and container orchestration (Nomad, Docker).
• Programming skills in Python or Go, with a focus or passion for infrastructure.
• Excellent written communication skills and a track record of documenting work.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent experience.
