Senior Linux Systems Engineer

Job Description

BAE Systems is seeking a Senior Linux Systems Engineer to join our technology-based program supporting a key government customer in Herndon, Virginia. This role involves delivering engineering services for network infrastructure and sophisticated enterprise computing infrastructure, including end-point devices, data center hosted servers, multi-cloud services, virtualized applications, and storage systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering services for network infrastructure and enterprise computing infrastructure.
• Work with modern application technology, including containerized solutions with orchestrated workflows.
• Engage in network infrastructure engineering services, including core infrastructure, voice and video engineering, field engineering, application management, and development for networks.
• Conduct network analytics, manage firewalls, network access controls, and bandwidth service delivery.

Required Skills and Experience

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
• 11+ years of relevant experience in systems engineering.
• Proficiency in infrastructure as code languages, with Ansible as a must-have.
• Experience with system automation and Linux.
• Familiarity with Eclipse, GitHub, DevOps practices, Java, and Python.
• Experience in security review of applications and infrastructure.
• 4+ years of experience in agile activities.
• Research and implement new technologies in object-oriented programming.
• Experience in cloud-based services.
• Ability to work well in an engineering team environment and mentor others.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with infrastructure automation technologies like Docker and Vagrant.
• Experience with build automation technologies like Maven and Jenkins.
• Experience with building APIs and services using REST and SOAP.
• Proficiency in scripting languages like Perl and Shell.
