Role Overview

As a Founding Backend Engineer, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of Medbill AI. You will work closely with the CEO and the tech team to define and execute the company's roadmap, particularly as it prepares for the launch of its private beta. This is an opportunity to own exciting technical projects from inception to completion, involving system design, full-stack programming, and feature launches.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the CEO and tech team to define and execute the product roadmap.
• Design and implement backend systems and services that are scalable and robust.
• Work on full-stack programming tasks, contributing to both backend and frontend development as needed.
• Lead technical projects from start to finish, ensuring high-quality deliverables.
• Engage in system design discussions and contribute to architectural decisions.

About You

• You have 5+ years of experience in software engineering, with a strong focus on backend development.
• You are passionate about Medbill AI's mission and excited to contribute to its success.
• You thrive in fast-paced environments and can navigate ambiguity with autonomy.
• You possess strong problem-solving skills and can design pragmatic solutions to complex challenges.
• You have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Bonus: Experience with healthcare data, complex integrations, web crawling, or AI-powered workflows.

Technology Stack

• TypeScript for mobile, web, backend, and infrastructure as code.
• React Native + Tamagui for a unified front-end codebase across iOS, Android, and Web.
• EdgeDB as the main transactional database, with a modern toolset including a type-safe ORM and GraphQL server.
• Docker and Pulumi for infrastructure management, deployed on AWS.
• Temporal for orchestrating asynchronous and long-running jobs.

Compensation and Benefits

• Competitive salary ranging from $150,000 to $230,000 annually.
• Equity options ranging from 0.3% to 0.8%.
