As a General Engineer specializing in Aerospace Experimental Facilities and Test Technologies, you will join the Langley Aerothermodynamics Laboratory team at NASA. This role involves planning, coordinating, and executing wind tunnel tests in hypersonic wind tunnels. You will lead a team of test engineers through various stages of test development, including model design and fabrication, test setups, coordination of testing activities, data collection, data reduction, and post-test data validations. Additionally, you will mentor less experienced team members and work with a variety of test techniques and customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Test Planning and Coordination: Lead the planning and execution of wind tunnel tests, ensuring all activities are well-coordinated and meet the required standards.
- Model Design and Fabrication: Oversee the design and fabrication of test models, ensuring they meet the specifications for hypersonic wind tunnel testing.
- Data Management: Collect, reduce, and validate test data, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
- Team Leadership: Mentor and guide a team of test engineers, providing technical input and delegating tasks effectively.
- Customer Interaction: Work closely with customers to understand their requirements and ensure their needs are met during the testing process.
- Troubleshooting and Development: Utilize various data systems and test techniques, including balances, discrete instrumentation, and optical test techniques, to troubleshoot and develop new testing methods.
Qualifications
- Experience: For GS-12 level, one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-11 is required. For GS-13 level, one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-12 is required.
- Skills: Proficiency in wind tunnel operations, data systems, and test techniques.
- Education: Must meet the Basic Education Requirement for Aerospace Technology positions.
