Job Summary

The Red Hat Engineering team is seeking a Senior Software Engineering Manager to join us in EMEA. In this role, you will lead a team of highly skilled technical associates responsible for developing migration tools for our enterprise customers. You will collaborate with peers globally to guide initiatives and foster the continuous development of technical team members. This position requires experience in managing teams within a fast-paced technological environment, coupled with a passion for enhancing the customer experience.

What You Will Do

  • Manage a team of engineers focused on developing and testing the Migration Toolkit for Virtualization.
  • Oversee the daily activities of technical teams, ranging from junior to senior engineers.
  • Engage actively in container and virtualization-related projects and communities such as Forklift, Red Hat OpenShift, and KubeVirt.
  • Lead new feature development and oversee contributions to open source projects using Golang, Ansible, and Python.
  • Collaborate with quality engineering team members to ensure proper project testing.
  • Work closely with our support organization to manage customer escalations involving complex technical support requests from enterprise customers.
  • Promote and guide the continuous professional and personal development of team members.
  • Enhance knowledge management, customer-centric support, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Cooperate daily with peer teams and groups within Red Hat to prioritize customer requests.
  • Provide leadership in problem-solving, including proposing and discussing fixes, advising, and educating customers.
  • Receive assignments in the form of objectives and define resource allocation to meet schedules and goals.
  • Provide guidance to associates within established company policies and recommend changes to policies and procedures.
  • Maintain knowledge of current technologies and business trends to provide appropriate evaluation of each customer issue.
  • Follow processes and operational policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

What You Will Bring

  • Previous experience as a technical people manager in a technology-oriented company or department.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Proven ability to quickly learn and apply new skills and processes, and to coach and teach others.
  • Ability to identify potential, develop people, and motivate and build a team.
  • Strong leadership and coaching skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent working experience.

The Following Are Considered a Plus

  • Experience working in a Linux environment and with GitHub, with proficiency in at least one language such as Golang, Python, or C/C++.
  • Knowledge of support systems and tools.
  • Appreciation and passion for open source software.
  • Experience with container ecosystems like Docker, Kubernetes, or Red Hat OpenShift.
  • Experience with microservices architectures and concepts, including scale, APIs, versioning, and monitoring.
  • Knowledge of virtualization technologies such as KVM and virt-v2v.
  • User-level familiarity with vSphere, RHV, or OpenStack.
  • Ability to deeply examine various technological areas and deliver solutions.
  • Debugging skills.
