Job Overview
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a highly motivated Senior Systems Development Engineer to join our team in Dublin, Ireland. This role is pivotal in the launch and operation of the European Sovereign Cloud (ESC), a new initiative aimed at delivering high-availability AWS services exclusively for EU customers. As part of the AWS Managed Operations team, you will be responsible for building and leading operations and development teams dedicated to this project.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the launch of the ESC in 2025, working closely with global AWS teams.
- Influence the evolution of AWS services and technology.
- Collaborate with technology leaders to enhance day-to-day operations.
- Ensure improvements in availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of the ESC.
- Participate in "on-call" rotations to resolve incidents occurring out-of-hours.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in software development or a related field.
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Java, TypeScript, Python, or Ruby.
- Experience with Linux, using the command line and basic administration.
- Strong understanding of computer networking fundamentals.
- Experience supporting cloud systems or other services.
- Proficient troubleshooting skills and the ability to anticipate problems affecting software systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Experience operating 24x7 high-availability, distributed software applications.
- Strong understanding of network fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, routing, load balancing).
- Experience with monitoring frameworks such as CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, or Elastic.
- Experience scripting operating system tasks in Bash, Python, etc.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools like CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, or Ansible.
