Job Overview
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Systems Development Engineer to join the Managed Operations team in Dublin, Ireland. This role is pivotal in the launch and operation of the European Sovereign Cloud (ESC), a new initiative aimed at providing high-availability AWS services exclusively for EU customers. As a Systems Development Engineer, you will be responsible for building and leading operations and development teams, ensuring the delivery of scalable and reliable AWS services such as EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the launch of the European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) in 2025, working closely with global AWS teams.
- Influence the evolution of AWS services and technology to enhance day-to-day operations.
- Ensure improvements in availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of the ESC.
- Participate in "on-call" rotations to resolve incidents occurring out-of-hours.
- Collaborate with technology leaders to enhance operational processes and reduce operational toil.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in software development or a related field.
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Java, TypeScript, Python, or Ruby.
- Experience with Linux, command line, basic administration, and computer networking fundamentals.
- Ability to troubleshoot at all levels, from network to operating systems to software applications.
- Experience supporting cloud systems or other services.
Preferred Qualifications
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Experience operating 24x7 high-availability, distributed software applications.
- Strong understanding of network fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, routing, load balancing).
- Experience with monitoring frameworks such as CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, or Elastic.
- Experience scripting operating system tasks in Bash, Python, etc., and with Infrastructure as Code tools like CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, or Ansible.
