Staff Data Scientist

Role Description

As a Staff Data Scientist at ShipBob, you will play a crucial role in discovering and analyzing data across all aspects of our business, including supply-chain operations, logistics, sales, marketing, and customer support. You will be responsible for identifying high-impact business opportunities through data exploration, model prototypes, and bootstrapping projects. This role involves hands-on development, productionization, and operation of machine learning models and pipelines at scale, including both batch and real-time use cases, structured and unstructured data.

Responsibilities

• Identify high-impact business opportunities through data exploration, model prototypes, and bootstrapping projects.
• Develop, productionize, and operate machine learning models and pipelines at scale.
• Collaborate closely with product management and engineering to develop the next generation of ShipBob's features.
• Communicate findings and insights through reports and visualizations.
• Mentor and guide engineers in the organization by promoting best practices, solid technical decisions, coding standards, and thorough documentation.
• Regularly present work internally to technical, engineering, and product stakeholders to iterate and generate excitement.
• Additional duties and responsibilities as necessary.

Requirements

• 6+ years of industry experience in data science, machine learning engineering, or as a tech lead.
• Excellent track record of designing, prototyping, scaling, and launching data science products to solve business problems.
• Deep understanding of the machine learning lifecycle, best practices, algorithms, and domains (e.g., anomaly detection, natural language processing, computer vision, personalization, recommendation, and optimization).
• Experience collaborating with and understanding the needs of stakeholders from a variety of business functions.
• Excellent coding skills in Python and familiarity with software engineering principles around testing, code reviews, and deployment.
• Fundamental understanding of data engineering practices around the creation of data pipelines, processing data, and storing data.
• Ability to take a product-oriented mindset in using conceptual and innovative thinking to develop and apply solutions considering the user experience.
• Established ability to communicate clearly and effectively to audiences of varying technical levels.
• Experience in supply chain or logistics is a plus.
• Familiarity with C# is a plus.

ShipBob believes in transparency while providing a competitive total compensation package with a pay-for-performance approach. The expected base pay range for this position is $162,624 - $271,041.
