Job Description
As a Lead Data Scientist at FedEx Dataworks, you will play a pivotal role in driving data science innovation within the organization. You will be responsible for defining and building the Dataworks organization and enabling the delivery of key business initiatives. Your role will involve acting as a "universal translator" between IT, business, software engineers, and data engineers, collaborating with these multi-disciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the creation and adherence of technical standards for data science and machine learning, including the design and construction of reusable data assets.
- Work with large data sets and solve complex analytical problems by applying advanced methods.
- Lead the creation and implementation of solutions from concept to production, using current and emerging technologies to evaluate trends and develop actionable insights and recommendations.
- Be deeply involved in code reviews and large-scale deployments.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior data scientists to support their continued training and up-skilling.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree or equivalent in computer science, operations research, statistics, applied mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline plus 6 years of experience in data science, operations research, and data analytics modeling.
- Alternatively, a Ph.D. in a related field plus 3 years of relevant experience.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, PySpark, SQL, Java/C++.
- Experience with data visualization tools like SAS, Power BI, and Spotfire.
- Familiarity with cloud technologies such as Azure or AWS.
- Experience with software development platforms such as Visual Studio and Databricks.
- Knowledge of optimization solvers such as Gurobi or Cplex.
- Extensive knowledge in advanced data science, statistical analysis, and machine learning methods.
- Strong familiarity with the transportation industry and evolving technologies.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to present and communicate effectively to executive audiences.
Work Environment
This position offers the flexibility to telecommute from home from any location in the U.S.
