The Opportunity

We are seeking a Data Engineering Tech Lead to join our GenAI team in Portugal. This team is at the forefront of leveraging advanced AI technologies to personalize user experiences and optimize resources. As a Tech Lead, you will focus on data cleanup and preparation for generative AI systems, ensuring the quality and reliability of the data powering our AI models.

Key Responsibilities

• Data Cleaning and Preprocessing: Develop and implement procedures to ensure high-quality data for AI model training. Address data inconsistencies and perform normalization, transformation, and augmentation.
• Data Pipeline Development: Design and build scalable data pipelines to automate data collection and preprocessing. Collaborate with data engineers to integrate these processes into the overall pipeline.
• Data Quality Assurance: Establish data quality standards and develop validation routines. Monitor and report on data quality metrics.
• Tooling and Automation: Develop tools and scripts for data cleaning and automate repetitive tasks. Stay updated with the latest techniques in data preprocessing.
• Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with data scientists and AI researchers to understand data requirements. Communicate data quality issues and solutions effectively.
• Leadership: Lead a team of data engineers, fostering a psychologically safe environment. Drive critical projects from design to implementation and plan cross-team projects.

Who You Are

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Proven experience in software development with a focus on data processing and integration.
• Strong programming skills in Python, SQL, or Java.
• Experience with ETL and data processing frameworks like Flink and Spark.
• Familiarity with machine learning and AI concepts, particularly generative AI.
• Knowledge of data pipeline tools such as Airflow, EMR, and Kafka.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
• Experience with modern agile product development teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with cloud platforms like AWS or Google Cloud.
• Experience with unstructured data processing and analysis.
• Knowledge of data governance and privacy best practices.
• Familiarity with ML frameworks like Scikit-Learn and Keras.
