Data Scientist at RTL Nederland

Your Tasks

As a Data Scientist at RTL Nederland, you will identify opportunities where data science can directly impact our consumers, advertisers, or employees. You will build data products at the intersection of data science, machine learning engineering, and AI. Your role involves communicating with other teams to understand problems and delivering solutions, often with machine learning, iterating as needed. You will plan, develop, train, document, deploy, and manage production machine learning models. Additionally, you will help others at RTL and beyond understand how we use data science and AI in production and at scale. You will also mentor, develop, and inspire your colleagues in the team with technical expertise and keep an eye out for improvement opportunities for the long term.

Your Profile

You should have a master’s degree in AI, data science, statistics, or a related field. A curious, proactive, and entrepreneurial mindset is essential. You must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively, building good and productive working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders. Strong language skills in English and Python are required. You must be located in the Netherlands and eligible to work there. A minimum of 2 years of work experience is necessary.

Experience in building data science products in industry, being part of a team developing and managing production models, mentoring other data scientists, and improving data science teams is highly desirable. Familiarity with Docker, Databricks, and MLflow, or other MLOps systems is beneficial. Experience in media or multimodal content is a plus.

Your Team

You will be joining a team of 7 data scientists and a data science manager at RTL Nederland. The team focuses on developing human-in-the-loop solutions that empower our creative people. The work is flexible, contributing in multiple ways from producing models for forecasting, enabling personalisation, to supporting marketing with a marketing mix model. As we tackle a variety of challenges, a day at RTL is never the same. One day, you might work on a model to pick the most aesthetically pleasing thumbnail for Videoland. Another day, you might help with selecting what movie to show on RTL 7. A third day, you might fix a production issue for search on rtl.nl.

The data science team is part of the data unit, which also includes roles such as data engineers and data analysts. The data unit is part of the tech department.
