Job Overview
Athene is seeking a Principal Developer to join our team in West Des Moines, IA. As a leading retirement services company, we are committed to providing innovative solutions to meet the needs of our clients. The Principal Developer will play a key role in building and maintaining efficient software applications that help reduce administrative costs and enhance information flow.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and Implement Functional Requirements: Develop efficient back-end features using Python and AWS Lambda functions. Build front-end user interfaces as needed.
- Documentation and Testing: Independently document code and produce technical design documentation. Conduct unit tests to minimize defects before integration and QA testing.
- Software Enhancements: Implement software enhancements, code refactoring, and performance improvements. Ensure quality, security, and compliance requirements are met.
- Technical Leadership: Act as an escalation point for application support and troubleshooting. Quickly assess and learn new or emerging technologies, create PoCs, and provide recommendations in solution design.
- Reverse Engineering and Migration: Analyze existing applications and migrate them into the organization's target application architecture.
- Cloud Data Management: Work with cloud data stores including Amazon RDS, S3, and DynamoDB.
- DevOps Practices: Use DevOps concepts, tools, and continuous delivery pipelines such as Jenkins, Git, and Jira.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
- Experience: 6+ years of application development experience, including Python and SQL.
- Technical Skills: Experience in building REST APIs, developing/deploying solutions to AWS Cloud (S3, Lambda, CloudFormation), and Salesforce development (Lightning Web Components, Apex).
- Containerization: Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Additional Skills: Knowledge of AWS Neptune DB and Gremlin is a plus. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
