Join AWS as a Senior Systems Engineer
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a highly skilled Senior Systems Engineer to join our team in Dublin, Ireland. This role is pivotal in the launch and operation of the European Sovereign Cloud (ESC), a significant development in utility computing. As part of the AWS Managed Operations team, you will lead efforts to deliver high-availability AWS services such as EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock exclusively for EU customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the launch of the ESC in 2025, collaborating with global AWS teams.
- Influence the evolution of AWS services and technology.
- Enhance day-to-day operations, ensuring improvements in availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency.
- Participate in "on-call" rotations to resolve incidents occurring out-of-hours.
- Lead the creation, revision, and improvement of standard operational procedures (SOPs).
- Drive operational best practices and troubleshoot issues affecting software systems.
Basic Qualifications
- 9+ years of systems engineering experience, working with hardware, software, networking, and operating systems.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Ruby.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools like CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, or Ansible.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to anticipate issues affecting system performance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working cross-organizationally and leading strategic team efforts.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers.
- Experience in performance tuning software applications and optimizing fleet utilization.
