About the Role
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Client Platform team at Descript, you will play a crucial role in building the next-generation platform for creating audio and video content. This position involves working on both web and desktop applications, utilizing technologies such as Electron, React, and Node.js.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and Maintain Applications: Develop the foundation of Descript's web and desktop (Electron) apps, ensuring they are reliable and performant.
- Design Systems: Create design systems to support UX consistency across products.
- Release and Packaging: Take shared ownership of the release and packaging process of the app and websites.
- Testing and Performance: Define and improve methods to test product surfaces, including end-to-end and performance testing.
- Collaboration: Work closely with engineers from product teams across Descript to understand their productivity and feature pain points, building solutions to resolve them.
- Data Standards: Build and maintain standards for data fetching and client-side state.
- Mentorship: Provide mentorship, including to senior counterparts, in your areas of expertise.
What You Bring
- Experience: 5+ years of professional software development experience.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in modern technologies such as TypeScript, JavaScript, React, and Node.js.
- Monorepos: Experience in maintaining and improving large-scale monorepos.
- JavaScript Tooling: Experience configuring and extending modern JavaScript tooling.
- Design Systems: Experience writing design systems in React and using tools like Radix and react-aria.
- Customer Obsession: A strong focus on providing a good user experience and understanding user needs.
- Judgment: Good judgment in making tradeoffs to balance velocity and quality.
Nice to Have
- Electron Experience: Experience with Electron is a plus.
