About the Role
WP Engine is seeking a passionate Software Engineer II to join our team and contribute to the evolution of open source projects, particularly in the WordPress ecosystem. This role is perfect for someone who is enthusiastic about open source software and eager to engage with the community to enhance WordPress as a Headless CMS through initiatives like WPGraphQL and Faust.js™.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage with the Community: Actively participate in the WordPress open source community, providing insights and feedback to improve our projects.
- Develop and Enhance: Work on WPGraphQL, a free, open-source WordPress plugin, and Faust.js™, a JavaScript library for headless WordPress sites.
- Collaborate and Innovate: Collaborate with team members and the community to develop new features and improve existing ones.
- Agile Methodology: Participate in a methodical agile process, supporting a high-performance, self-directed team.
- Quality Assurance: Adhere to high-quality software development and test procedures.
- Continuous Improvement: Be proactive in improving the team’s processes, tools, and ways of working.
Your Expertise
- Open Source Enthusiast: Passionate about open source software with a commitment to sharing and contributing to the community.
- Effective Communicator: Able and willing to engage publicly on technical challenges and concerns.
- WordPress Development: Deep understanding of WordPress development best practices.
- API Knowledge: Familiar with GraphQL and/or RESTful APIs.
- Software Development Experience: Ideally, 2+ years of experience in a software development role with a track record of delivering high-quality software.
- Continuous Learner: Demonstrated history of staying current with technology trends through continuous learning.
- Proactive Problem Solver: Possess natural problem-solving abilities, an inquisitive personality, and the capability to tackle issues even with uncertain requirements.
Helpful Experience
- Familiarity with headless concepts (SSG, SSR, ISR, etc).
- Experience with git and agile development processes.
- Experience with API tools like Postman, GraphiQL, etc.
- Proven experience contributing to public open source projects.
- Experience in developing custom WordPress plugins or building custom blocks.
- Skilled in one or more of the following: PHP, JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Next.js.
