Backend Engineer, Commerce

Role Overview

Join Whatnot, a leading livestream shopping platform, as a Backend Engineer within our Commerce team. You will be instrumental in shaping the future of ecommerce by working on various aspects of buying and selling on our platform. From auctions and product experiences to seller experiences and fulfillment processes, your work will directly impact our business growth and user transactions.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain scalable and maintainable backend systems.
Work across a wide surface of our product to create full-featured end-to-end user experiences.
Make critical trade-offs between building quickly and building sustainably, often prototyping new ideas and then scaling them.
Collaborate closely with other teams to ensure seamless integration and high performance.

Who You Are

You have at least 5 years of full-time software engineering experience, preferably in high-growth startups.
You hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or have equivalent work experience.
You are proficient in multiple programming languages, although expertise in Python, Elixir, or JavaScript is not mandatory.
You possess excellent product instincts, prioritizing user needs over technical solutions.
Known for your ability to ship products and features rapidly.
A strong problem solver who doesn’t require detailed instructions.
Capable of mentoring others and building inclusive, supportive teams.
A project owner with strong ownership instincts, capable of leading projects from inception to production and beyond.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: $185,000 to $245,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications.
Equity: Stock options available.
