Role Overview
As a Senior Software Engineer in the Discovery (Search) team at Whatnot, you will be pivotal in crafting the ultimate search experience for our users. Your work will focus on improving the search functionality across our platform, ensuring that users can easily find the streams, products, and community interactions they are looking for. You will tackle a variety of challenges including taxonomy, search filters, retrieval and ranking algorithms, and content understanding.
Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize search algorithms to enhance user experience.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate search features across the platform.
- Utilize data-driven approaches to refine search mechanisms and improve accuracy.
- Engage in problem-solving to address search-related issues and innovate solutions.
- Maintain and update the search infrastructure to support scalability and efficiency.
Qualifications
- 4+ years of software engineering experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, or a related field.
- Experience in applied statistical and machine learning fields such as Search, Recommendations, Fraud & Anomaly Detection, Experimentation, and Causal Analysis.
- Proficiency in multiple programming languages, including Python, Elixir, and JavaScript.
- Demonstrated ability to ship products and features quickly.
- Strong problem-solving skills and excellent product instincts.
