💻 The Role

As a Discovery Engineer at Whatnot, you will be responsible for building the best user experience for finding and engaging with the most relevant content on our platform: streams, products, and others in the community. You will focus on a wide variety of problems including taxonomy, browse experience, search and recommendations algorithms, and content understanding. We make data-informed decisions and ship quickly to benefit our users.

👋 About You

4+ years of software engineering experience.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent work experience.
Knowledge of at least 3 languages (we primarily use Python, Elixir, JavaScript, and are open to others).
Excellent product instincts; you prioritize users over technical solutions.
Known for shipping products and features quickly.
Excellent problem-solving skills and independence in decision-making.
Comfortable working across the stack (backend and frontend).
Ability to pick up new technologies quickly.
Proven track record of delivering features.
Experience in product management, AWS, and DevOps.
Startup experience at a high-growth company is a plus.

💰 Compensation

For US-based applicants: $185,000 - $245,000/year + benefits + stock options. The salary range may be inclusive of several levels that would be applicable to the position. Final salary will be based on a number of factors including level, relevant prior experience, skills, and expertise.
