Role Overview
Join Whatnot, the largest livestream shopping platform in the U.S., as a Senior Backend Engineer in our Commerce team. You will be part of a dynamic team that works on various aspects of buying and selling on our platform, from auctions and product experience to seller experience and fulfillment processes. Our teams are deeply connected with the foundations of our business and unlock tremendous growth while creating exciting new ways for our users to transact.
Responsibilities
- Design and build scalable and maintainable backend systems.
- Prototype new ideas quickly and build them for extreme scale.
- Coordinate closely with other teams to ensure seamless integration of services.
- Mentor junior team members and prioritize building inclusive, supportive teams.
- Own projects from inception to production and beyond.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of full-time software engineering experience in high growth startups.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Expertise in designing backend systems.
- Proficiency in multiple programming languages; knowledge of Python, Elixir, and JavaScript is a plus.
- Strong product instincts and a user-first approach to problem-solving.
- Proven track record of shipping products and features quickly.
