Role Overview
As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Community team at Whatnot, you will be instrumental in building the social aspects of our platform that foster lasting connections between sellers and buyers. These connections are crucial for buyer retention and are a primary driver for Whatnot's business growth.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement backend services for live shows, chatting, messaging, user profiles, tipping, and social sharing.
- Drive the development of new strategic initiatives, scale existing experiences, and prototype ideas to inform our roadmap.
- Ensure high concurrency, low latency, and stability in system design.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of full-time software engineering experience, preferably in high-growth startups.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Proven track record in designing and building scalable, maintainable systems in multiple languages.
- Experience with real-time systems such as chat, auctions, and multiplayer games is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits
- Competitive salary range of $185,000 to $245,000 per year.
