Role Overview
As a Senior Backend Engineer at Whatnot, you will be a key player in the Commerce team, focusing on various aspects of buying and selling on our platform. From auctions and product experiences to seller experiences and fulfillment processes, you will work closely with full-stack teams to create end-to-end user experiences. Your role involves making critical decisions on building fast versus right, prototyping new ideas, and scaling them for high demand.
Responsibilities
- Design and build scalable and maintainable backend systems.
- Collaborate with other teams to prototype and scale new features.
- Ensure high-quality code and robust system architecture.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team growth.
- Engage in problem-solving and optimizing product and software design.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of full-time software engineering experience, preferably in high-growth startups.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Proficiency in multiple programming languages; experience with Python, Elixir, and JavaScript is a plus.
- Strong product instincts and user-centric approach in software development.
- Demonstrated ability to ship products quickly and handle projects from inception to production.
