💻 The Role
As a Backend Engineer in the Discovery department, you will be instrumental in creating an engaging user experience by building and maintaining a healthy ecosystem on our platform. Your work will involve developing taxonomy, browse experience, search and recommendations algorithms, and content understanding systems. We value data-informed decisions and prioritize shipping quickly to enhance user benefits.
Responsibilities
- Design and build scalable and maintainable backend systems.
- Develop taxonomy and content management systems applicable to new product features and recommendation algorithms.
- Prototype new ideas quickly and build them for extreme scale while coordinating with other teams.
- Mentor team members and foster an inclusive, supportive team environment.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of full-time software engineering experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Proficiency in multiple programming languages; specific knowledge of Python, Elixir, and JavaScript is advantageous but not required.
- Strong product instincts with a focus on user-first solutions.
- Experience in taxonomy, category graph systems, and machine learning fields like recommendations, content understanding, and search is a plus.
💰 Compensation
For US-based applicants, the salary range is $185,000 - $245,000/year plus benefits and stock options. The final salary will depend on level, experience, skills, and expertise.
