About the Role

As a Blockchain Data Engineer at Kraken Digital Asset Exchange, you will be an integral part of our Data Engineering team. Your primary responsibility will be to build and maintain scalable solutions that enable fast and accurate data-driven decisions across terabytes of data. You will manage our data warehouse and data lake, crafting pipelines to efficiently move and process vast amounts of data for different data products. Our team handles both batch and streaming data, with diverse responsibilities matching your interests and expertise.

Key Responsibilities

• Blockchain Data Platform Development: Contribute to our in-house Blockchain Data Platform, enabling on-chain read and write capabilities for Kraken teams and beyond. This data is accessible through our data systems, supporting several projects from various engineering and business units.
• Data Pipeline Construction: Build scalable and reliable data pipelines that collect, transform, load, and curate data from internal systems. Ensure high data quality for pipelines you build and make them auditable.
• Distributed Data Store Design: Support the design and deployment of distributed data stores that will be the central source of truth across the organization.
• Self-Service Tools Development: Develop, customize, and configure self-service tools that help our data consumers extract and analyze data from our massive internal data store.
• Technology Evaluation and Prototyping: Evaluate new technologies and build prototypes for continuous improvements in data engineering.

Skills and Experience

• Blockchain Expertise: Deep hands-on experience with at least one major blockchain, potentially more (e.g., UTXO, EVM chains).
• Data Engineering Experience: 2+ years of work experience in relevant fields such as Analytics Engineer, Data Engineer, DWH Engineer, or Software Engineer.
• Technical Proficiency: Excellent SQL and data manipulation skills using common frameworks like Spark/PySpark, Pandas, Polars, or similar.
• Data Warehousing: Experience with data warehouse technologies and relevant data modeling best practices.
• ETL/ELT Processes: Experience building data pipelines/ETL (or ELT) and familiarity with design principles (Apache Airflow is a big plus).
• Programming Skills: Experience with at least one major programming language (e.g., Python, Scala, Java).
• Remote Work: Experience with business requirements gathering for data sourcing while working remotely and asynchronously.

Nice to Have

• Experience with blockchain data providers like Dune Analytics, Nansen, Elliptic, or Chainalysis.
• Experience working with cloud services (e.g., AWS, GCP) and/or Kubernetes.
• Experience in a highly regulated environment.
• Experience in building and contributing to data lakes.
• Experience working with petabytes of data while optimizing queries and processes.
