The Opportunity
As a Founding Backend Engineer, you will collaborate closely with the CTO and the founding team to develop the core technology driving our recommendation engine. This role involves utilizing the latest advancements in AI, including computer vision, language, speech, and generative ML models. You will have the freedom to experiment and innovate in a flexible development environment, significantly shaping the product's foundation and the company's technical direction.
Responsibilities
- Core Services Development: Design, implement, and maintain the backend infrastructure and large-scale data processing pipelines.
- Machine Learning Infrastructure: Collaborate with data scientists and ML engineers to integrate, deploy, and evaluate ML models and APIs.
- Development Processes: Oversee the developer tooling, build, and deployment systems to ensure reliable production releases.
- Operational Excellence: Implement logging, monitoring, and alerting to maintain high service availability. Lead outage incident responses and optimize services for scalability and efficiency.
- Leadership and Mentorship: Guide and mentor the engineering team as the company scales, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.

Qualifications
- Proficient in Python, AWS, Git, and various database technologies.
- Experienced with build systems like Bazel, Pants, Buck, or Please.
- Skilled in DevOps and MLOps methodologies.
- Experienced with machine learning model training, deployment, and inference.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- 8+ years of experience in backend engineering, preferably in a startup environment.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary: $120,000 - $150,000/year, with potential increases based on company performance.
