Senior API Management Engineer

Job Overview

The European Investment Bank (EIB) is seeking a Senior API Management Engineer to join its Group Corporate Services Directorate – Group Digital Office (GCS-GDO), Platforms & Services Department (P&S), Integration Division (INT), Integration Platform Services Unit (IPSU) at its headquarters in Luxembourg. This is a full-time position with a permanent contract.

Purpose

The role involves driving the maturity of the EIB's API capabilities, collaborating closely with development teams, and ensuring a seamless developer experience. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the digital strategy, overseeing the evolution of the API management platform using state-of-the-art technologies both on-premises and in the cloud.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and implement the enterprise API strategy to elevate API management capabilities.
• Foster an API-first culture and promote the use of APIs as a primary means of integrating systems and services.
• Collaborate with enterprise architects and development teams to define best practices and guidelines for API design, development, documentation, testing, and continuous integration and delivery.
• Transition API offerings to the cloud, leveraging cloud-based API management solutions.
• Ensure an optimal developer experience by combining API offerings with intuitive and developer-friendly processes and tools.
• Serve as the API management gateway expert, utilizing WSO2 to optimize API use.
• Plan and manage regular and security product patching to maintain the API Management Platform.
• Maintain close contact with vendors and support providers to anticipate upgrades and evolutions.
• Draft and submit Project Charters for new and enhanced API Management functionalities.
• Manage projects to ensure solution delivery within set schedules, budgets, and quality objectives.

Qualifications

• University degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Information Management, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in designing and implementing software solutions using APIs.
• Extensive experience in API management, including hands-on experience with API management platforms.
• Experience with WSO2 API Gateway is an advantage.
• Experience with cloud-based API offerings and transitioning from on-premises solutions.
• Strong technical background with a focus on software development principles and practices.
• Ability to perform hands-on Proof of Concepts (POC) work.
• Knowledge of security aspects of modern application design and associated protocols.
• Good knowledge of project management principles, methods, and practices.
• Knowledge of automation and enablement technologies such as Jenkins, Jira, Git, Nexus, and Azure DevOps.
• Excellent knowledge of English and/or French, with a good command of the other.
