Senior API Platform Engineer

Job Overview

Our team in Amsterdam currently has an opening for a Senior API Platform Engineer. As a Senior API Platform Engineer at Brenntag, you will play a pivotal role in the ongoing development and optimization of our state-of-the-art API Platform. We are seeking a visionary individual who lives and breathes APIs, possesses strong technical expertise, and can drive the maturity of our API platform capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and Development: Design and develop new features and functionalities for the Kubernetes and Istio-based multi-tenant API Platform.
• API Strategy Implementation: Implement and enforce our enterprise API strategy for API design and development.
• Performance Optimization: Monitor, analyze, and optimize the performance of the API platform to ensure high availability and minimal latency using the LGTM observability stack.
• Security: Work closely with cybersecurity teams to implement API security strategies.
• CI/CD Pipelines: Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for efficient and reliable deployment of new APIs and platform updates.
• Troubleshooting and Support: Provide troubleshooting and support for the API platform, lead root cause analysis for complex issues, and ensure timely resolution.
• Collaboration: Work closely with enterprise architects and workload teams to harden and improve existing best practices and solution automations for API delivery.

Required Skills and Experience

• Minimum of 5 years experience in building and designing APIs in enterprise environments.
• Strong technical understanding of API integration patterns and best practices.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in EKS-based platform engineering, with a proven track record in implementing large-scale API platforms.
• Experience with production-grade service mesh implementation.
• Strong understanding of building reusable, scalable, self-service platforms serving multiple teams.
• Experience with Grafana and Prometheus is a must. Experience with the Grafana LGTM stack is strongly preferred.
• Strong understanding of test-driven infrastructure development.
• Strong background in microservices architecture and cloud-native technologies.
• Strong experience with CI/CD tooling such as GitLab.
• In-depth knowledge of API security standards, protocols, and best practices.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a team-oriented mindset.
• Ability to operate independently to plan, execute, and deliver based on business requirements.
• Fluent in English, with the ability to communicate complex technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
