Job Description
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a skilled DevOps Systems Engineer to join our Managed Operations team in Dublin, Ireland. This role is pivotal in the launch and operation of the European Sovereign Cloud (ESC), a significant development in utility computing. As a systems engineer, you will be responsible for building and leading operations and development teams dedicated to delivering high-availability AWS services such as EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock, exclusively for EU customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the launch of the ESC in 2025, collaborating with global AWS teams.
- Influence the evolution of AWS services and technology.
- Enhance day-to-day operations, ensuring improvements in availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of the ESC.
- Participate in “on-call” rotations to resolve incidents occurring out-of-hours.
- Deliver scalable services and ensure a high-availability experience for EU customers.
Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years of systems engineering experience, working with hardware, software, networking, and operating systems.
- Proficient in leading the creation, revision, and/or improvement of standard operational procedures (SOPs).
- Proficient in driving operational best practices.
- Proficient in scripting processes in languages such as Bash, Python, or Ruby.
- Proficient in troubleshooting and anticipating problems affecting the performance, reliability, or availability of software systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working cross-organizationally and leading strategic team efforts.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers.
- Experience in performance tuning software applications and optimizing fleet utilization.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or similar.
