Join the Fight Against Cybercrime as a Cybercrime Analyst
Are you ready to leverage your analytical skills to combat cybercrime? Do you have the ability to handle large volumes of data and provide insightful analysis? If you are knowledgeable in methodologies such as crime scripting and CSAE (Collect Store Analysis Engage), and can apply these to analyze cybercriminal activities, then the Cybercrime Team of the Amsterdam Unit is looking for you!
What You Will Do
As a Cybercrime Analyst, you will be responsible for strategic and tactical intelligence and investigation, creating safety analyses in the field of cybercrime. You will play a coaching and organizing role for other analysts and work with domain experts to provide accurate interpretations, phenomenon images, and intervention proposals. You will use large amounts of information, in collaboration with relevant partners, to generate intelligence to combat complex and (inter)national cybercrime.
You will gather and combine information from various sources about digital entities such as IP addresses, individuals, companies, and organizations, and provide interpretations. You will map information flows, describe characteristics of suspects and criminal collaborations, recognize deviant patterns and developments in cybercrime, identify intervention opportunities, and advise on an integrated approach. Your findings will be clearly and structured in intelligence products such as phenomenon and safety images, monitoring messages, information reports, and research proposals. You will act as an intermediary, bringing together supply and demand, and formulate proposals for improvements in the analysis process.
You will initiate, build, maintain, and direct substantive collaboration from the regional and (inter)national intelligence (cyber) network. From the cyber image, you will extract the phenomena important to the Netherlands, which you will further develop with other analysts from the National Intelligence Organization (DLIO). You will be an ambassador for the cybercrime theme, focusing on Ransomware, DDoS, Bank phishing, and Remote access trojans.
Where You Will Work
You will be placed in the Analysis & Research Team of the Regional Intelligence Organization (DRIO), from where you will work with the Cybercrime Team in Amsterdam. Cybercrime teams are positioned within the Regional Investigation Service (DRR) in each unit for tackling cybercrime. The DRR consists of the departments of Generic Investigation, Thematic Investigation, Immigration Police, and Specialist Support. In this unique structure, collaboration is based on equality between these two organizational units, working from a joint assignment with alternating leadership.
The Cybercrime Team is the team of the future! In close collaboration with the ten cybercrime teams of the other units, the High Tech Crime Team (THTC) of the National Unit, and the analysis cluster of the National Operational Cybercrime Consultation (LOCO), it is part of a unique national network in the field and broad fight against cybercrime. Investigations into ransomware, DDoS attacks, malware, hacking, bulletproof hosting are the core business of the Cybercrime Team. The team also acts as an engine in the cybercrime network of the regional Amsterdam Unit, closely connected with basic teams, district investigation teams, and investigation teams of the DRR.
The Cybercrime Team is a multidisciplinary operational team with expertise in digital, intelligence, tactical, and financial areas. The team conducts project-based and complex (phenomenon) investigations and interventions into national and international forms of cybercrime in an offensive and creative manner. Also, at the front, often together with public-private partners, disrupting or stopping criminal processes or taking preventive measures is part of this approach. The Cybercrime Team works from trust, and a safe working environment is a core value. The team relies on the knowledge and skills of the team members. That is the strength of the team. Each team member contributes from their own field to the result and is valued accordingly. The Cybercrime Team is diverse, dynamic, and creative with a high work pace and a great drive to be meaningful and to continue developing in the field.
Who You Are
Naturally, you are analytically and motivationally strong and can methodologically responsibly relate information from different sources. You have experience with both quantitative and qualitative research methods. You quickly generate insights, for example, by identifying cross-links between multiple investigations or incidents. You unravel issues, distinguish main from side issues, make connections, and can draw the right conclusions. Furthermore, you can, in collaboration with data specialists, devise reduction models to arrive at phenomena and/or targets.
You can report and present clearly, you are a connector and build bridges between the various internal and external partners. For your fellow analysts, you are a coach, and you develop and implement new methods and techniques. You have the ability to advise well (both solicited and unsolicited), dare to take the initiative, and are collaborative and open-minded. You are well aware of what is happening in society and have a broad view that is both internally and externally oriented.
Additionally, you are flexibly deployable, so you are there when your expertise is needed. At the police, you must be able to act quickly. The work is unpredictable, and sometimes you work under pressure with tight deadlines, with a flexible 24/7 mentality. Because we work in a rapidly digitalizing world, it is important to constantly look for new ways of working, procedures, methods, and techniques and apply them directly in your work. We give our people all the space for innovative ideas and solutions and want to respond to the need from society to continue to combat crime in a rapidly digitalizing society.
