Job Description
Bolt is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join our Data Platform team, specifically focusing on data ingestion. This role is pivotal in designing, building, and optimizing the core elements of Bolt's Data Platform. The Ingestion team is responsible for the foundational layers of the Data Platform, including the ingestion of both internal and external data into our Data Lake and managing data storage.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and Build: Develop and optimize components of Bolt's Data Platform, focusing on data ingestion and storage.
- Prototype and Innovate: Investigate and prototype new services to enhance data quality, monitoring, alerting, performance, and cost efficiency.
- Coding: Primarily code in Python, Scala, and/or TypeScript, with occasional use of other languages.
- Problem Solving: Proactively address technical challenges and fix bugs.
- Contribute: Provide ideas and solutions to the product development roadmap.
Our Technology Stack
Bolt utilizes a modern data stack with a Data Mesh architecture, incorporating technologies such as Kafka, Presto, Spark, Databricks, Airflow, dbt, Looker, and Fivetran. We serve thousands of internal customers and millions of external customers.
Requirements
- Experience: 7+ years in software development with proficiency in at least one modern OO language (e.g., Python, Scala, Java, JavaScript, C++).
- Skills: Excellent English and communication skills, experience with microservices and distributed systems, and a solid understanding of algorithms and data structures.
- Tools: Familiarity with Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker, and streaming data technologies for low-latency data processing (e.g., Apache Spark/Flink, Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, Hadoop ecosystem).
- Education: A university degree in a technical subject (Computer Science, Mathematics, or similar).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in building and designing real-time and asynchronous systems.
- Experience with cloud service providers (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
- Strong knowledge of SQL and experience with OLAP technologies (e.g., AWS Redshift, ClickHouse, Presto, Snowflake, Google BigQuery, DataBricks).
