Job Overview
The Lead Systems Engineer at OCLC is a pivotal role responsible for executing and coordinating technical projects aimed at improving the reliability, stability, and efficiency of the OCLC Wise platform. This platform serves as an Integrated Library System (ILS) used by public libraries to enhance the experience for library users and staff. The role involves close collaboration with Software Engineers and other stakeholders to ensure seamless platform operations.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and oversee the work of stakeholders and team members.
- Propose and lead automation improvement projects using tools like Ansible and Rundeck.
- Prepare environments for new customers and oversee platform patches and upgrades.
- Schedule and monitor maintenance tasks, analyze performance, and implement improvements.
- Lead analysis and resolution of production incidents and server-related changes.
- Manage SSL certificate installations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
- 6+ years of experience in Java development and RedHat Linux server administration.
- Proficient in scripting (PERL, Shell, Python), SQL, and system administration.
- Experience with Apache, Tomcat, NGINX, and automation tools like Ansible.
- Familiarity with continuous integration tools (Jenkins, Bamboo, Quick Build, Run Deck).
- Knowledge of Kubernetes, Helm, Docker, and AWS solutions is a plus.
Working Conditions
This position operates under a hybrid work model, allowing for three days a week in the office and two days remote. The role requires excellent communication skills and the ability to manage multiple requests efficiently.
Additional Information
- Experience with GitLab, Apache SOLR/Lucene, DNS, and Mail Servers is advantageous.
- Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code practices and Agile methodology is beneficial.
