Yahoo is seeking a talented Software Development Engineer to join our Observability team. This role is perfect for someone who is passionate about building real-time services that operate on massive volumes of constantly changing data. About the Role
As a Software Engineer in Yahoo’s Observability team, you will specialize in building high-performance, high-throughput, distributed, and scalable systems. These systems are capable of handling millions of data points per second in real-time, with storage systems that manage massive write rates and queries scanning through millions of rows. You will collaborate with world-class teams of software engineers and architects to create amazing experiences that will delight our users.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain high-performance, scalable systems for real-time data processing.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement new features.
- Debug and optimize code to ensure high performance and reliability.
- Work with cloud-based environments such as AWS and GCP.
- Utilize observability tools like Grafana, NewRelic, DataDog, and Splunk.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of programming experience using Java, Golang, Python, or similar languages.
- Strong systems programming development, testing, and debugging skills.
- Experience in software design and development with a focus on large-scale distributed systems.
- Strong Unix/Linux experience.
- Experience with cloud-based environments, i.e., AWS, GCP.
- Experience with observability tools or big data tools like ElasticSearch, OpenTSDB.
- Strong skills in integrating diverse API and Web Services.
- B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Understanding of network and security practices in cloud and on-prem deployments.
- Ability to work well with diverse groups of people, geographically dispersed across the world.
- Knowledge and operational experience running large-scale distributed systems.
