What You’ll Do

As a Backend Engineer at Trading 212, you will:

• Develop Solutions: Take a holistic approach to problem-solving by understanding business problems, service architecture, and underlying technologies. You will engage in forming requirements, designing implementations, coding, testing, deploying, and monitoring solutions.
• Full Ownership: You will have full ownership of your code, maintaining it in good shape and refactoring it when necessary.
• Performance and Resilience: Develop for performance, scale, and resilience in an uncompromising environment where downtime, latency, and data loss are intolerable.
• Agile Teams: Work in compact, autonomous teams with short release cycles, relying on agile methodologies to maintain high velocity without sacrificing quality.
• Knowledge Sharing: Learn from your colleagues and share your knowledge to grow as the company grows.

What You Need To Have

• Communication Protocols: Familiarity with HTTP/WebSockets & AMQP communication, with the ability to decide when to use one over the other.
• Web Frameworks: Experience with at least one commonplace web framework, regardless of the language.
• RDBMS Concepts: Understanding of indexing, transactions, isolation levels, and locking mechanisms to design high-performance databases.

Nice to Have

• Microservice Architecture: Experience developing services in a microservice architecture.
• In-Memory Databases: Experience with in-memory databases like Redis or Memcached.
• CS Education: Ongoing or completed computer science education.
